Scaffidi Named 2016 Milwaukee Municipal Executive of the Year

The Milwaukee Business Journal has selected the owners of Sendik’s Food Markets as its 2016 Executives of the Year and Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi as Municipal Executive of the Year for their key roles in continuing the economic development boom in southeastern Wisconsin.

“Scaffidi has been just as active in Oak Creek, which has seen more development than any other municipality in southeastern Wisconsin. The biggest coup of the past year was landing Wisconsin’s first Ikea store, which will be located near West Drexel Avenue and Interstate 94.

Scaffidi has told the story of his first meeting last year with reps from Ikea, in the former city hall’s committee room with a ceiling that leaked water. He retold that story at a development forum in early November in a glass-enclosed room in Oak Creek’s new City Hall at Drexel Town Square. The contrast between Oak Creek’s tired former city hall and its airy, modern new one reflects a community-wide transformation seen during Scaffidi’s tenure as mayor.”
